LUNG / A Former Friend / Carrie Nation & The Speakeasy

  • The Oasis Pub 16 Bank Street New London, CT, 06320 United States (map)

If we’re throwing a Sunday show, you know it’ll be a good one. Two outstanding bands on tour joining our friends, A Former Friend, for a great night of music. Note the early start time: doors at 7pm, show at 8pm.

LUNG is a daring duo from Cincinnati wielding electric cello and thunderous drums to create a sound both fierce and ethereal. With Kate Wakefield’s classically trained voice and cello drenched in distortion pedals and amps, paired with drummer Daisy Caplan’s earthquaking rhythms, their intensity is unmatched. Since forming in 2016, they’ve racked up over 800 shows across North America and Europe, sharing stages with acts like The Jesus Lizard and Screaming Females. Described as “loud, dissonant, innovative, and fearless,” their evolving, genre-defying form continues to push boundaries.

A Former Friend is a deeply introspective Americana-Gothic project, born in Arizona, raised in Kentucky, and now rooted in New England. Their songwriting taps into the storied tradition of American balladeering—reflective, haunting, and steeped in poetic truth. Often described as an American troubadour pondering life, labor, and love in the age of the apocalypse, this act brings an evocative and stirring presence to the stage.

Carrie Nation & the Speakeasy is a high-energy “Brass ’n’ Grass” sextet with roots in punk, bluegrass, and Dixieland—crafted into a relentless, rollicking sound. Based in Wichita since 2007, their live shows are dynamic and ever-changing, fueled by mandolin, trombone, trumpet, washboard, banjo, stand-up bass, and compelling songwriting that goes beyond whiskey-infused fun to tackle themes of social satire, labor, existential journeys, and more. Their sound—often dubbed “a stagecoach in overdrive”—blends controlled chaos with soulful storytelling.

7pm doors / 8pm show / $10 (cash or credit)
